Ekpeye Kingdom Sues For Peace
The people of Ekpeye
Ethnic Nationality in Rivers State have dedicated their land to God, seeking divine intervention in the enthronement of peace and development in the area.
The dedication service, tagged, “Rebuilding the Broken Wall” was organised during a one-day prayer session at St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Ahoada, and attended by devoted sons and daughters of Ekpeye.
Delivering the keynote address at the session, the Chief Host, Bishop of Diocese of Ahoada, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Clement Ekpeye decried the internal wranglings among the various interest groups in Ekpeye which had led to stagnated development in the area, despite the abundance of human and natural resources.
The cleric said; “the Ekpeye Christian Council noted that the only solution to the crisis of underdevelopment in Ekpeye was to call upon God to come to their rescue”.
He appealed to all sons and daughters of Ekpeye to sink their differences and work collectively towards the development of the area.
In his lecture titled, “The Ekpeye Nation and the 21st Century”, Dr. Mark Ogonor attributed the institutional decay and lack of development in Ekpeye to the absence of moral and traditional education.
He said in the past, moral and traditional upbringing constituted a peaceful heritage and a formidable strength for the people, but such attributes have been taken over by forces that threaten the very existence of the people.
Also speaking, Rev Ogadimma Odoi, called on Ekpeye sons and daughters in political offices to drop self-serving motives and work for the overall interest of the people.
