NAMA Takes Over Airports Navigational Aids Calibration
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has taken over the calibration of navigational aids at the nation’s airports in compliance with the federal government’s directive.
The Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren at a brief handover ceremony, said that there would be need to review the revenue sharing formula between the two agencies considering the additional overhead cost to NAMA on the account of the calibration unit.
He explained that before this development, NCAA had ordered for another calibration aircraft, stating the agency had paid seven out of the ten installments and assured that NCAA would complete payment in the next three months.
Demuren, who said NCAA was committed to the success of the unit under NAMA, noted that the agency based on professional advice had ordered for automatic console for the HS-125 aircraft currently on the fleet of the unit.
According to him, when the two aircraft are fully operational, NAMA would not have to engage ASECNA before navaids at the nation’s airports could be calibrated.
Responding, the Managing Director of NAMA, Namdi Udoki expressed appreciation for the courage and forthrightness of the NAMA boss in ensuring that the handover ceremony took place without any hitches.
He said that nobody should be blamed for the additional responsibilities given to NAMA and urged the staff of the unit to make positive use of the opportunity of having to work under the agency.
Relevant legal documents were signed by the chieftains of the two agencies while photo albums and equipments of the units were presented to the NAMA boss by the NCAA D-G.
