Nemesis‘ll Soon Catch Up With Erring Officers – FRSC
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Osun, Mr Sunday Maku, says nemesis will soon catch up with officers engaging in extortion or other forms of corruption.
Maku, who took over the mantle of leadership of the command this month made the assertion in Osogbo yesterday in an interview with our correspondent.
The commander, while reacting to allegations of extortion against some officers of the command, said that some measures would be put in place to nab erring officers.
“l have warned all officers in the sector that l have zero tolerance for corruption. So surveillance will be mounted on all of them and anyone involved in extorting money from motorists will face the consequence.
“Any member of the public who sees FRSC officer collecting money on the roads across the state should endeavour to report directly to me,” he said. Maku said that his mission in Osun was to bring road accidents to zero level.
He said, “This will be achieved through regular patrol on the roads, sensitisation and awareness campaign exercises to enlighten, educate and inform all road users to imbibe road safety culture.
“Visit to motor parks, churches, mosques and market places will be more frequent; meeting with the leadership of NURTW, RTEAN, ACCOMORAN and other stakeholders in transport sector will also be priotorised.
“This is to seek their collaboration in curbing the excesses of their members and be aware of the command’s readiness to enforce traffic rule and regulation to the letter,’’ Maku said.
The commander appealed to the general public to give FRSC maximum cooperation, and said, “the issue of road safety is not one man business, but a collective effort which requires the service of all and sundry”.
He further called on motorists, commercial motorcyclists and other road users to always abide by the regulations guiding their operations in order to avoid crashes and unnecessary waste of human lives.
