World Bank Pre-Paid Meters: PHCN Installs 43,000 Free Meters
The Coordinator in charge of PHCN prepaid meter distribution, Mr Joseph Ciroma, said yesterday that 43,000 meters had been installed in Karu, Nyanya and its environs.
Ciroma, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja, said the meters were installed free as the project was sponsored by the World Bank.
“Records available to us show that we have been able to connect over 43,000 customers both on single phase and three- phases prepaid metering programme in these areas.
“These customers are all located in Karu, Mararaba, Nyanya, and environs.
“We are to install 117,000 meters, comprising single phase and three phases. About 60,000 have been supplied and delivered by the contractors and we have only installed 43,000.”
Ciroma said that before the end of February, the remaining meters would be installed.
He explained that the free meter distribution was being executed under the National Energy Development Project, with a credit facility from the World Bank.
