Monarch Sends SOS To Amaechi On AKULGA Boss
The Amanyanabo of Kula Kingdom in the Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, HRM King Kroma A. Eleki, has sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal to the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi over the activities of the acting Chairman of the local government, Hon. Stanley Benibo.
In a press briefing yesterday in Port Harcourt, King Eleki described as provocative, the purported dissolution of existing structures in Kula and appointing of new ones in disregard of the norms and customs of the kingdom.
“May I state categorically that the appointment of persons into the various structures in Kula Kingdom is the responsibilities of the community leadership which by the grace of God, I am the head as the Amanyanabo (King) of Kula Kingdom duly and officially recognized by the Rivers State Government.
“It is also pertinent to state that Kula is not a department in the office of the acting chairman and indeed there is no emergency declared by any authority in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area to deprive the community the leadership to exercise its traditional functions and responsibilities,” the king said.
The monarch listed some of the outrageous activities of the acting chairman to include, the invasion of the community with 20 armed policemen with a view to handpicking as cronies some compound chiefs, the purported dissolution of the Kula youth executives and that of the satellite communities in the Kingdom, the inauguration of the Kula Employment Bureau and the appointment of a new executive for Free Town (Ekulama 2) when there is an existing executive.
He said that the situation was capable of jeopardising the existing peace in the community.
King Eleki also urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to sanction the Acting Chairman as his action was not in line with his constitutional mandate.
