AA Backs Subsidy Removal …Suggests N50,000 Minimum Wage
The governorship candidate of the Acton Allience (AA) in the last general Election, Chief Aleruchi Williams, has supported President Jonathan’s fuel subsidy removal.
Hon Williams who spoke while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt Tuesday, over the re-run senatorial election in Rivers East senatorial district, said the subsidy removal was for the interest of the masses.
The former mayor of Port Harcourt stressed that the support became imperative due to Jonathan’s position as the first Southerner to mount the highest political office in the country.
According to him the president ought to have enough support from his home in order to succeed at the top.
He, however, criticized the federal government over the N18,000 minimum wage, saying that N50,000 is the ideal wage.
Williams, explained that since food was compulsory at every table, N18,000 is not enough to alleviate the suffering of the people.
He regretted that those at the top plan big for themselves while allowing the grassroot people to die in penury.
“How can they earmark Ghana-must-go for themselves and offer peanut to the people. N18,000 can not put food at every ono is table and at the same time, take care of the children’s upkeep”, he said.
He also informed that his senatorial candidate, Hon Chizi Atata and the party (AA) were ready for the Thursday January 5, 2012 re-run senatorial election.
He maintained that both the party and the candidate had good tidings for the state, adding that they would also deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
