Dantata Donates N15m Female Hostel To ABU
Businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, recently inaugurated a N15 million female hostel he built for the School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS/ABU), Funtua.
The school operates under the aegis of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria..
Dantata, who was represented at the occasion by Dr Hassan Dantata, said that the project was aimed at supporting educational development, especially female education in the country.
He expressed hope that the project would benefit the people and serve as encouragement in efforts to enhance the standard of education in the country.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, said the new hostel would accommodate 160 students, noting that facilities available included common rooms, computer centre, security and administrative offices as well as functional toilets.
Mustapha said that the school had assisted in addressing the increased failure of graduating secondary school students, as it ran pre-degree programmes on science-based courses.
According to him, no fewer than 20,000 specialized graduates in various fields had passed through the institution, noting that the school’s presence had also increased northern students’ enrolment at ABU.
Naming the new hostel – “Ummu-Zaria Hostel’’, after Dantata’s mother , the Vice Chancellor called on wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture of Dantata.
He added that Dantata’s contribution to education was enormous, especially in Information Technology and other areas, stressing that with the new facility, students’ admission would increase.
Also speaking, the Chairman of SBRS/ABU Funtua Governing Board, Prof. Tanimu Abubakar, thanked the institution’s host community and their traditional rulers.
Abubakar said that the school authority had complemented the board’s efforts in facilitating the growth of the school, while also improving the standard of education in the northern states of Nigeria.
The event was attended by the District Head of Funtua, Alhaji Sambo Idris; the Katsina state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Aminu Kado and many other dignitaries.
