NAMA, Red Cross Partner On Disaster Check
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has expressed its readiness to partner with Red Cross Society (RCS) in tackling weak disaster management in the aviation industry and the country at large.
The Managing Director of NAMA, Mazi Nnamdi Udoh was speaking when he received a delegation of RCS, led by Almosho Divisional Chairman, Lagos State, Mr Innocent Ighekpe in his office, in Lagos.
The NAMA boss who was represented by the Director of Finance and Administration of the agency, Mrs Elizabeth Agom recalled the importance of RCS during disasters, saying that NAMA would not hesitate to collaborate with RCS since its job centre on safety.
“You only appreciate their work when you’ve seen disaster like earthquake, tsunamis or during war; disasters like that of the United Nations building in Abuja. What RCS does is very laudable. And this is why we are ready to partner with them”, she added.
According to her, the RCS has the practice of recognizing individuals and organizations involved in humanitarian service, pointing out the new NAMA boss had performed such services in the area of safety as the agency’s former director of safety and electronics.
In his speech, the leader of the RCS team, Mr Innocent Igbekpe said they were in the office to present a merit award to the NAMA boss for his contribution to humanity in the area of air safety and to inform him that he had been appointed as the new patron of the detachment.
“We recognise the importance of RCS to the aviation sector. The RCS has also shown willingness to train residents of the communities around the airport of disaster management”, he said.
Also speaking, the commandant, NAMA detachment of RCS, Chaplain Anidugbe said the unit was formed as a result of the burden to serve humanity.
“The NAMA unit will be available to respond to emergencies in the aviation sector”, he added.
