NDLEA Intercepts 4.1kg Of Heroin In Lagos
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said on Monday that it has intercepted 4.1kg of heroin allegedly concealed inside cooking pots.
The agency’s spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, in a statement made available to newsmen said the illicit drug was discovered at the arriving hall of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, during a routine search.
He explained that three persons allegedly belonging to a drug syndicate in India have been arrested by the agency in connection with the drug.
“It was imported by a suspected member of a drug cartel, who was caught during the screening of passengers on Qatar Airline flight from Dubai.
“One of the suspects, a 43-year-old man, who brought the drug from India en-route Dubai, was apprehended by NDLEA officials, when the drug was discovered.
“Two other suspects who came to the airport to receive the drug were also apprehended.”
Ofoyeju described the operation leading to the arrests of all suspects as very satisfactory, stressing that it was a product of careful management of operational intelligence.
“Our target of arresting all persons connected to drug crime and bringing them to book was achieved. More arrests are in the offing.”
Ofoyeju said the suspects had made useful statements to investigators, noting that they were found to have had physical contacts with members of the syndicate in India.
He said that investigation into the case had reached advanced stage, adding that all suspects would be charged to court soon.
