Cleric Tasks Jonathan On Security
President Goodluck Jonathan, has been advised to take decisive steps in addressing the security challenges in the country.
The General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangel Mission (ALEM), Apostle Eugene Ogu gave the advice in an interview with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
He decried the spate of killings in Northern parts of the country in recent times and urged the President to take drastic measures to put to an end this miserable development.
He noted that various cabals that had held this country to ransome in the past were not happy that President Jonathan was committed to doing things right as clearly manifested in the successful conduct of the last general elections.
According to him, “the jilters we see in the various faces that are being manifesting today like the Boko Haram, are faces of protest, faces of reaction that are telling us why change the status quo”.
Apostle Ogu described the killings in Plateau, Kaduna, Borno and Bauchi states as ethnic cleansing and enjoined the President to rise up to the occasion as the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The Jonathan we all know is a dove, Jonathan we know is a lamb, Jonathan we know is a hen; he is not an eagle or a lion that can confront these challenges head-on. However, he should cease to be Jonathan and be Commander-In-Chief so that he will be able to face the challenges that are arising”.
He stated that most of those who were arrested over the bomb blasts and killings in the North were said to be foreigners who passed through the Nigerian borders and wondered how they made it without the consent of the security agents at the borders.
The General Overseer of ALEM expressed dissatisfaction with the security agencies and urged the President to wield the big stick to enable them take their jobs seriously.
“And he (President) must confront these problems, there must be surgical operations on the security agencies in Nigeria. There must be retirement and mass transfer in the SSS, Police, Army, Navy, Airforce, Customs and Immigration”, he said.
He said the President should match his words with action to instill confidence in his leadership of the country.
“If he says enough is enough, it’s not the language of a lamb, is the language of a lion, the language of a tiger. He must apply the strength that is required, else he might be surprised at what is coming ahead”, he added.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
