Ember Months: Be Patient, Transporter Urges Motorists
A Port Harcourt-based transporter, Chief Dappa Opuwari, has urged motorists and road users to be more patient and careful while driving during the ‘ember’ months, from September to December.
Chief Opuwari who gave the advise while addressing group of commercial vehicle drivers in Port Harcourt, on Monday in his capacity as a member of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, described the advise as very necessary because this is the time when road accidents appear to be on the increase due to rush by drivers.
He maintained that adherence to such caution, could minimise road accidents which were usually high during the ember months. “There is a saying in this part of the world that urges those behind to learn from the mistake and downfall of the ones in front. I urge drivers on our road to be conscious of others. They should be watchful of the mistakes of others while driving and also learn from the outcome of the mistakes of others.
“What I am saying is that most road accidents are caused by impatient drivers, especially in ‘ember’ months and the result is always affecting other innocent ones on the road”, he posited.
He noted that consciousness and carefulness were two virtues every driver ought to possess, particularly as the Muslim and Christian festivities in November and December approach.
The transporter, who also advised other motorists to always put their vehicles in order before plying the road, said “the way many drivers move around with their vehicles is like they are in a race or a competition with others on the road for a trophy”.
