Driver Arraigned For Manslaughter, Reckless Driving
A commercial bus driver who allegedly caused the death of a 54-year-old man through reckless driving was arraigned before an Oshodi Senior Magistrates‘ Court, Lagos.
Seun Ogundare, 25, is standing trial on a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter.
He pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mr O.A. Adelabu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Police Prosecuting Officer, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that Ogundare drove his vehicle recklessly thereby causing the death of a male adult pedestrian.
He said that the accused committed the alleged offence on August 24 on Ikorodu Road, Obanikoro, Lagos.
“The accused, being the driver of a commercial bus with Reg. No. XJ 450 FKS drove same on a public highway in a reckless and dangerous manner.
“He drove the vehicle without due care to other road users and caused the death of a male adult pedestrian whose name and address are yet unknown,” Olatunde said.
He said that the police could not find any form of identification on the deceased but took him to the mortuary at Gbagada General Hospital, Lagos.
He said the offences were punishable under Sections 27(1) and 29(1) Cap 172, Vol. 7 of the Road Traffic Act (R.A.T), Laws of Lagos State.
The case was adjourned to September 29 for further hearing.
