RSG To Handover Model Schools To Foreign Managers
Ahead plans by the Rivers State Government to handover the management of the new 24 model secondary schools to foreign managers, the State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi has conducted an Indian education consortium, Educomp Solutions round some of the schools under construction in various parts of the state.
Leading the team headed by its Chief Executive Officer in Africa, Mr Shantaram Hedgekatte on a project inspection last Monday, to some of the schools now at various level of completion, the Governor inspected Omuma and Etche Local Government Areas where projects were found to be almost 80 percent complete.
The ones in Eleme Local Government Area and Sakpenwa in Tai Local Government Areas are already completed and are waiting to be unveiled, if plans by the government to use the state-of the -art facility sails through by the next school session.
The facility tour is part of government’s plan to handover the schools before the end of the year and also provide the Indian consultants first-hand information to understudy the facilities.
It would be recalled that the schools are part of efforts by the Amaechi-led government to overhaul the educational sector in the state. The Governor had disclosed that most of the moribund community secondary schools would be phased out to pave way for the new ones, and about 24 of them are replicated in all the local government areas of the state.
Each school according to the governor, cost the state about N4.5billion and would accommodate about 1000 students including hostels.
Other facilities include library, workshop, science laboratories, a sickbay, two dining halls, an auditorium and standby generator.
Meanwhile, Governor Chibuike Amaechi has inspected some projects in Port Harcourt and Etche Local Government Areas, were he urged the contractors to speed up work to meet delivery deadline.
The projects include the Agip Roundabout flyover and the Tam David-West Interchange and flyover. He also visited the ongoing Ozuzu bridge and Umuakwu/Obite bridge works, all in Etche Local Government Area.
