PH Jail Break: Bundu Advocates Prison Boss’ Sack
The People of Bundu-Ama Community in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Rivers State have called for the immediate redeployment of the Controller of Prisons, Rivers State Command, Mr. Ogundana Babalola Jerome following his alleged statements to demolish Bundu Ama Water Front due to the recent jail break in Port Harcourt.
The Chairman of the Community, Comrade Addah Williams made the call while briefing the press at the community town hall last Tuesday.
Comrade Williams accused Mr. Ogundana of inexperience which subsequently led to the recent jail break noting that the issue of water front demolition in the state is already pending before a court in the state.
He stated that Bundu-Ama Community has no hand in the recent jail break in Port Harcourt and attributed the ugly incident to negligence of duty by the prisons officials.
According to him, the prison warders only man the main entrance of the prison and leave the other side of the premises without adequate security.
“We are speaking as it affects the Bundu-Ama Community, we don’t have any hand in the jail break. What happened was a complete negligence of duty by the prison officials he stated”.
The Chairman urged Mr. Ogundana to accept the blame for his incompetence rather than attributing it to the over crowded nature of the water fronts in Port Harcourt.
He further accused the warders in the prison of conniving with the prison inmates to conmercialise telephone services in the prison yard.
Reacting on the allegation, the state controller of prison, Mr. Ogundana Babalola said it was untrue that he called for the demolition of the water fronts rather he suggested that the prison yard be relocated from the residential area.
