‘Songhai Farm’ll Improve Our Food Sufficiency’
The Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) has said that the 314 hectares Songhai farm project in Bunu Tai in the Tai Local Government Area could help the state to attain the Millennium Development Goal (MOG) in food sufficiency.
The Executive Director of the Agency, Mr Noble Pepple said this last Thursday at Sakpenwa, headquarters of Tai Local Government Area during the Excellent in Local Government Initiative (ELGI) end of tenure prize presentation award to Tai Local Government Area.
Pepple, who said that the Songha farm project was part of the vision of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to stimulate rural development as well as solve the problem of unemployment in the state, said that Tai local government area stands to reap maximally from the project as the host.
He said that the ceremony was part of the promise made by the agency during the ELGI Award night in Port Harcourt, stressing that it was no mean feat for Tai LGA which emerged as the third best local government area during the assessment exercise.
The RSSDA executive director, however, said that the situation should serve as a challenge to the new administrations in both Tai and other local government areas in the state.
Mr Pepple assured that the agency is always ready to assist any local government area that is ready to put in place projects that will uplift the standard of the people.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Hon. Gbenekanu Kuapie thanked the RSSDA for the gesture, stressing that it would served as a moral booster for his administration to either consolidate or improve upon the achievements of his predecessor.
Hon. Kuapie also stressed the need for partnership with the agency to improve the fortunes of the area.
The council boss, however, solicited the support of the agency to boast transportation in the area.
Items presented are, 3,500 journals for fisheries, few exercise books, few science books and 15 bags of fish feeds and two cartons of glo handsets.
