Bayelsa State Government is accelerating work on the Tombia-Amassoma Road project to ensure its quick completion, the Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has said.
He stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Amananaowei of Amassoma community, Major Graham Naingba (rtd) during the Amassoma Seigben Fishing and Feasting Festival.
Sylva announced that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which is jointly executing the project with the State Government, had released its counterpart fund for the project, saying that SPDC’s contribution was 30 per cent of the total cost, while that of the State Government was 70 per cent.
Acknowledging the crucial place of Amassoma community in the development of the state, Sylva said government was committed to the growth of the community.
The Governor disclosed that his administration had commenced the sand filling of the new campus of Niger Delta University and secured the accreditation of most of the courses in the university.
He promised to encourage the Amassoma Seigben Fishing and Feasting Festival and urged the people to explore ways of using the festival to promote their culture and boost tourism by improving upon the event and make it more attractive to local and foreign audiences.
The Amananaowei of Amassoma community expressed gratitude to Sylva for the visit and pledged to support his administration.
Chairman of the Planning Committee for the festival, Mr. Ebi Avi, thanked the Governor for appointing the people of Amassoma into key positions in government.
