UN Gives C’River Transport Company Road Worthiness
The Cross River Government-owned transport company, Cross Lines, has received road worthiness certificates from the United Nations Decade to
ensure safety on the roads.
Mr Nkereuwem Onung, Chaimlan, Board of Cross lines, stated this at the inauguration of the rebranded Cross Lines buses in Calabar
He said the buses needed to be certified road worthy before they could embark on trips. According to Onung, a device to determine the weight of load each vehicle should carry had been installed on all the buses.
He further said that the terminal was equipped with an online booking facility and a mini mart.
He remarked that the company had a Global Positioning System (GPS), a technology that would enable it to monitor the movement of all the buses in its fleet.
“We have the device to know the fuel level of every vehicle, the number of passengers wherever they are and the movement of the vehicles,” he said.
Onung said that Cross Lines is the only transport company in the country with United Nations safety certified pilots.
The chairman said that the management decided to transform the company to meet up with the rapidly changing world.
Onung said that transformation would enable the company to compete favourably with other transport operators and make it one of the best in the country.
“It is our desire to create the environment conducive for all our stakeholders and customers because they deserve better than they are getting.
“We need to motivate our staff to enhance productivity,” he said.
Onung commended the Cross River Government for creating an environment favourable to development and promised to serve the people better and more efficiently.
Also speaking, Mr. Charles Effanga, Managing Director of the company, said that every business needed to pass through several phases to grow and that the first success breakthrough of a business was not the end.
He stressed the need to make the company the best transport system in the state and promised to maintain this innovation of the company.
