RSCCA, ALAC Partner To Decongest Prisons
The Rivers State Customary Court of Appeal (RSCCA) has expressed its willingness to partner with the Nigerian Legal Aid Council (NLAC) to decongest prisons and improve the living condition of the inmates.
The President, Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Peter Agumagu stated this while speaking with the Director General of the Legal Aid, Council Mrs. Joy Bobmanuel who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt.
Justice Agumagu who extolled the leadership qualities and wealth of experience of Mrs. Bobmanuel identified aggressive public enlightenment campaigns as key to prison decongestion, saying it will keep the public abreast with the Council’s activities and thereby help proffer solutions to problems facing prisoners.
He lauded the Legal Aid Council for their role in bringing hope and succour to the less privileged who cannot afford the services of lawyers and pleaded with them to continue their good work.
The President expressed concern over the poor prison condition and pledged support of the Customary Court of Appeal in future collaborations with the Legal Aid Council in helping them achieve their set goals.
Earlier, the Director General of the Legal Aid Council, Mrs. Joy Bobmanuel in her opening remarks had congratulated Justice Agumagu on his appointment as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal which she said is well deserved.
Mrs. Bobmanuel also solicited the support of the Customary Court of Appeal in helping the Legal Aid Council decongest prisons and improve the living conditions of prisoners which she said is the basis for their visit o the President and thanked him for granting them audience.
