RSG Awards Contract For No 1 Field
Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has awarded contract to build a modern football field, at the No. 1 Field along Niger/Bende Street, old Port Harcourt township.
Hon. Boma Iyaye, Commissioner for Sports in the State made this known when he paid unscheduled visit to the site, over the weekend.
According to him, “this is in fulfillment of the governor’s earlier promise to build good sporting and recreational facilities to promote grassroots sports development and engage the youths meaningfully.
“Governor Amaechi has mobilised contractors to commence work for the reconstruction of the field to a modern and befitting football arena” Iyaye said.
Consequently, the Sports Commissioner has given a seven day ultimatum to occupants of the arena to vacate the premises to enable the contractors begin work immediately.
“I have given a seven-day ultimatum to all the illegal occupants of the premises, this is to enable contractors handling the job to commence work immediately. Government is determined to promote grassroots sports and engage our youths meaningfully through sports” he stated.
He continued that illegal occupants who refuse to vacate after the expiration of the seven days will be forcefully evacuated and no compensation will be paid.
