Bayelsa Assembly To Probe LG Bosses
Governor Timipre Sylva has directed the Bayelsa State House of Assembly to take cursory look at the activities of the Local Government Chairmen in the state most especially the allegations that some of them are residing outside their domain.
Chief Sylva who also called for active participation of the people in the running of the state, stressed that it was wrong to leave governance of the state in the hands of politicians.
The governor stated it was improper for any person to adjudge his administration as the worst in the state, noting its various developmental strides.
Responding to posers raised during a Town Hall meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, the governor said it was disheartening to note that after their election, the Chairmen were now administering the Council from outside.
Calling on the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Nestor Binabo to look into the matter, the governor submitted that it was purely a legislative matter, adding that no desired impact could be achieved by the Local Government Chairmen, who are always seen within Yenagoa and urged them to live in their domain to be able to interact more with the people.
Rating his administration in term of performance, the governor it was wrong for any person to adjudge his administration as the worst in the Country, noting the level of infrastructural development.
His words, “I won’t agree with anybody that the State has not moved forward. In fourteen years, what do people expect from the government? We have opened up Yenagoa as an emerging city with internal roads.
Responding to a question posed by Eunice Akene, on communication and interaction with the people of the state, Governor Sylva, agreed that the government had not taken that opportunity to reach out to the people.
“We will now interact with the people. Communication is key and we will now interact more with the people on government programmes and policies to allow for inputs for the general interest of all”, said Sylva.
