RSG Lauds FG Over Airport Eprum Expansion
The Rivers State Government has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government over the expansion work going on at the eprum of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
Speaking to newsmen at the airport after the flag off of airlift of the first batch of muslim pilgrims for the 2010 hajj, the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, said it is gladdening to see that the federal government has remembered the state.
“We are indeed grateful to the Federal Government that at last they have remembered us”, Ikuru said.
He expressed the hope that the project will be completed on record time and not to be abandoned or remain indefinitely.
“We hope it is the one that will be for ever, we hope it has been and it will be finished and we are indeed very pleased”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, the just-concluded 37th session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has re-elected Nigeria and 11 other countries into category 11 of its world rating as part of its 36-member council.
The council is the governing body of the organization and is elected for a three-year term.
According to ICAO ratings, the countries in category 11 of the council are states that make the largest contributions to the provision of facilities for international civil air navigation.
Other countries elected in this category are Argentina, Belgiun, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, India, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain and South Africa.
States that were re-elected as part of the council and retained their category 1 status include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and the United States.
They are referred to as states of chief importance in air transport.
