Buhari, Others To Nominate Mega Party Officers
The Mega Summit Movement says it will next week release the list of protem officers of the Social Democratic Mega Party to be launched on April 28.
The Tide’s source reports that the movement will be officially launched as Social Democratic Mega Party.
In a statement, the Secretary of the movement’s harmonisation team, Mr Wale Okuniyi, said the release of the list would enable the movement to prepare for a national summit during which the mega party would be launched.
The statement was made available to The Tide’s source on Sunday in Lagos.
Okuniyi disclosed that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and some other key members of the movement were expected to nominate officers of the mega party.
“The protem national executives of the party, in consultation with the elders of the movement, are expected to commence consideration of possible candidates in earnest so as to enable the party to secure sufficient time for campaign,’’ he explained.
Okuniyi said the mega party would provide a platform for strengthening political opposition forces.
He said the movement received much impetus from the labour movement “whose leadership specifically requested to align with the new platform at various levels through its political commissions’’.
“The leaders of conscience in the mega movement and our allies in the political commissions of the organised labour are therefore expected to endorse a deferred memorandum of understanding at the summit,’’ he said.
Okuniyi said some political parties had agreed to fuse into the mega party while some preferred alliance for the purpose of jointly presenting a presidential candidate in the 2011 elections.
