Amaechi Impounds Rickety Truck …Arrests Occupants
Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has ordered that a rickety truck be impounded, while the driver and two of its occupants be detained for using a vehicle that is not road worthy to convey cement, thereby causing a nuisance on the road.
Governor Amaechi gave the directive yesterday at Mgbuoba/NTA road, while on an unscheduled inspection tour of projects in parts of the state, shortly on his arrival from Angola.
The Governor who expressed serious concern over the danger the truck poses to other road users, urged his security details to hand over the truck and its occupants to the nearest Police station.
Governor Amaechi who stopped his convoy to order the arrest, wondered how the driver could move the truck through the numerous Police checkpoints and patrol vehicles in the city, without being arrested.
The rickety truck which had no light at its front and back, no windscreen, no plate number, but has a number, AA 857 EZA, written on one side of the body, and was also emitting hazardous smoke to the environment from a make-shift radiator installed far away from the engine.
The inspection tour took the Governor and his entourage to the Omerelu-Owerri Road project, the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte hospital project site, old Aba Road-Oginigba/Trans Amadi road project, and the Choba-Rumuokuta Road projects amongst others, to access the progress of work.
