Ex-Militants: Committee Drafts Charters
Repentant militant leaders across the Niger Delta region have concluded a three day meeting in Yenagoa and come up with what they considered as reports of their expectation from Federal Government in the spirit of amnesty granted to them.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the secretary of Bayelsa state Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Mr. Selekaye Victor-Ben, said the report would be presented before the erstwhile creek warlords and other stakeholders for further scruting and deliberation before forwarding it to the relevant federal authority.
He said the meeting will also be held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state this weekend, saying that though the draft report is ready, “we will report back to the stakeholders that gave us the assignment.
“There is need to take further comments and imputs before we submit or release it to the public”, he said.
According to him, the draft report is the outcome of a closed door deliberation by the members of the committee for over three days.
“It speaks the mind of the Niger Delta militants and other stakeholders in the region”, he explained.
An eight-man committee headed by a former IYC founding director, Ijaw Human Rights Commission, Mr. Patterson Ogon, had met in Yenagoa last Sunday to deliberate on various positions advanced by leaders of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the ex-militants and other stakeholders.
Other members of the committee include, Hilda Dokubo, Miabiye Kuromuma, Owaupele JP, Goodluck Emiriah, George Keleley, Mashal Kunoun and Selekaye Victor-Ben.
