Opobo King Tasks FG On Post-Amnesty Plans…Charges RSG To Revive Moribund Industries
In order to consolidate on the gains of the amnesty granted to militants in the Niger Delta, the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingodm, King Dandeson Jaja, has called on the federal government to provide career opportunities for the teaming youths of the area.
King Jaja, (V) gave the challenge at the opening ceremony of the fourth edition of the Opobo International Boat (OIB) Regatta at Opobo Town.
The Opobo Kingdom Monarch observed that the region had been engulfed in violence in the recent past because the federal government had failed to provide jobs for the people coupled with the insincere disposition of oil companies to pursue development.
In his words the oil companies and some government agencies in the Niger Delta have only worsened the poverty and condition of the people due to their half-hearted approach to develop the region.
He stressed that, “governments must learn how to keep their promises, whether to militants or to any category of citizens and persons in our country.”
The King blamed the federal and state governments for dragging their feet over massive industrialisation programme to create sustainable economy with career and competitive opportunities for the people.
King Jaja V maintained that the government should emulate the example demonistrated by leading developed countries like the United States of America, Japan and United Kingdom, which guidely intervened to save its industries and companies from the effect of economic meltdown.
In the light of this, he suggested that the Rivers State Government should revive state-owned moribund companies considering the economic benefits.
His words, “we believe that Governor Amaechi has shown commendable vision for this state. He can achieve even better now to write his name in gold, by giving our state a reliable leap forward in the economy.
Considering the public, private partnership, scheme being promoted by the Amaechi led administration, he advised that such companies should only be privatized after they have been revived.
The Amanyanabo however commended the state government for the Vigour it has displayed in revitalising culture and tourism activities recently.
Nevertheless, he prayed the state government to strengthen support to the OIB since it is the only recognise National festival in Rivers State.
