Falconets Assemble For Zimbabwe Tie
Nigeria’s Under-20 Women’s team will square up against their Zimbabwean counterparts in Harare next weekend as the second round of the continental qualifiers for the 5th edition of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup kicks off in various centres across the African continent.
About 35 players have already assembled at the Capza Hotel camp in Abuja in preparations for next weekend’s tie in Harare.
The team, which has a new technical crew headed by Egan Adat as Chief Coach, also has former national captain, Florence Omagbemi, Wemimo Oni Olarenwaju and Christopher Alor as Assistant Coaches.
The players and their technical crew commenced training at the FIFA Technical Centre, Abuja on New Year’s Day in the chase for one of the two slots allotted to Africa for the global biennial championship scheduled for Germany this summer.
Other contenders for the slot include: Zambia, Tunisia, Ghana, South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria’s Falconets remain the only African team to have participated in every edition of championship since its inception in 2002.
Congo DR was at the 2006 and 2008 editions of the competition. Nigeria’s Falconets reached the quarter finals in Thailand in 2004, Russia in 2006 and Chile in 2008.
