How Enyimba Snatched Top Spot
Title-chasing Enyimba claimed an unexpected 1-0 road win over fellow contenders, Warri Wolves to slide back to the top of the Nigerian Premier League table, two points ahead of the Warri side. Wolves, who toppled Enyimba last weekend, were expecting to consolidate on their position with a victory that would have seen them move four points clear of the Peoples Elephants, but Cletus Itodo rifled in with just a minute left to play to break Wolves hearts and underline Enyimba’s title credentials. Elsewhere, Sharks seem to have turned the corner, as they claimed their second win on the trot, beating 3SC 2-0. Bright Ejike gave the struggling Garden City side the lead on the stroke of halftime, and ThankGod Amaefule converted a penalty three minutes after the break. Champions Bayelsa United continue to struggle, drawing 1-1 with Wikki Tourists, the same result from their last home game against Dolphins. And for the second road game on the spin, Dolphins escaped with a 1-1 draw, this time at Gateway. Heartland beat Ocean Boys 2-0 in Owerri, Rangers claimed a 1-0 over Kano Pillars and Zamfara United won by the same scoreline over Kwara United. Lobi Stars continue to be in free fall after a good start, and went down 0-2 at Gombe United. For Niger Tornadoes, they continued their steady climb upstairs with a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars while Ranchers Bees edged the Kaduna derby by the same scoreline over Kaduna United.
