Quack Journalists To Face Hard Times In Bayelsa
Quacks and unqualified journalists parading themselves in Bayelsa State, may be in for trouble if the comments coming from the chairman of the state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Tariyo Akono is anything to go by.
Speaking last Tuesday, while appreciating internet facilities donated by Chevron, Comrade Akono said publication of false and unverifiable stories, libelous articles and character assassinations are not part of the profession.
Akono said with the provision of the internet facilities, journalists in the state would be exposed to more sophisticated method of information gathering, and thanked Chevron for its kind gesture.
He, however, disclosed that the council establish a place of relaxation in the press centre, equip of its library as well as provide other facilities that would make journalists enjoy their jobs, appealing to other multinational and corporate bodies operating in the state to come to the assistance of the council .
In his speech, the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Engineer Femi Odumabo said the provision of the facilities would enable journalists in Bayelsa State to improve their capacity of work and enhanced their access to information from the web.
Engineer Odumabo who was represented at the occasion by Tope Ideowu said Chevron believed in partnering with journalists in information management in the development and strategic planning of the Niger Delta.
He therefore, urged journalists in the state to see the gesture as an inspiration to take the profession to greater heights.
