RSG Bans Use Of Posters In PHC

The Rivers State Government has banned indiscriminate display of posters on walls, buildings and public places in Port Harcourt and its environs.

The Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari who made this known shortly after the State Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday, explained that the ban became necessary in view of the culture of cleanliness which is being planned in the emerging new Rivers State.

“For the kind of state we are building, we no longer want posters all over the place”, the Commissioner emphasized, adding a “no poster campaign” would soon be embarked upon in the state.

The Information boss said henceforth, any group or persons whose posters are seen on the walls or at bus stops would be traced and be made to suffer some discomfort explaining that the policy is aimed at ensuring a clean environment.

Mrs. Semenitari stressed the need for residents of the state to cultivate the culture of keeping the state clean especially in the spirit of the new Rivers State.

The State Executive Council also approved the payment of compensation to property owners at the Rivmall area and those within the four kerps at the Eleme Junction inter-change.

She hinted that the issue of next year’s budget was equally discussed with a view to ensuring early submission and passage and expressed the hope that government would be able to deliver the 2010 budget to the people early next year.

The Commissioner for Culture & Tourism, Hon. Marcus Nle-Eji, who also briefed newsmen on the Executive Council position with respect to the 2009 CARVIRIV, said the event which promises to be colourful would kick-off on the next month with the opening of the African Village, directly opposite the Liberation Stadium, Elekahia.

Mr. Nle Ejii said the 9-day event which is aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the various ethnic groups that make up the state, would be rounded off on the Dec. 20, this year with a thanksgiving service.

The culture and Tourism boss enjoined all Local Government Areas to participate in this year’s carnival, promising that government would encourage artists who participate in the event.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
