Wike Eulogises NYSC For Uniting the Nation …As 2,550 Members Pass Out In Rivers
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has praised the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its systematic effort in uniting and building a virile nation.
The governor who spoke at the passing out parade of 2550 corp members of 2017 Batch A, Stream I in Port Harcourt, also commended the outgoing corps members for contributing positively to the socio-economic development of the state.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Kenneth Kobani the governor said the corp members’ distinguished services had greatly impacted on the socio-economic landscape of the state.
“Your pivotal place in our quest for sustainable development is borne out by the note-worthy contributions of all through the community development service of the scheme, such as, the effective campaign against HIV/AIDS implementation of various aspects of the SDGs programme, mass literacy programme, legal aids, health care delivery and charity. For these contributions, especially in the rural and disadvantaged communities, where majority of you served, the state remains grateful”, he said.
He also charged the out going corp members to nurture and develop their entrepreneural skills to create jobs for themselves as the era of white collar jobs were gone. Also speaking, the state Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Sunday Aroni thanked the corps members for utilising the opportunities provided by the service year to positively affect lives in their host communities.
