We Have Power Of Prosecution – FCC
The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has said that it has the constitutional power to prosecute both corporate organisations and individuals which flout its rules and regulation in the country, especially in areas of employment.
The revelation, which was given in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, by the Rivers State Commissioner of the commission Amb. Spiff Taribo, when he visited the state local government service chairman of the body, Dr. Ephraim Etete-Owo, in his office as part of his sensitization tour to agencies charged with employment said that the commission has always adopted dialoque in the past to move the commission forward.
Amb. Taribo further disclosed that the commission has a mandate to ensure that all states of the federation are represented equally in terms of employment and political appointments at the Federal level, adding that the commission may be forced to prosecute offenders who sabotage itself to achieve the desired results.
On the distribution of amenities, the FCC boss in the state stated that the commission also has the mandate to ensure even distribution of social amenities, among the states of the federation and that the principle of the federal character commission was also applicable at the state and local government levels to ensure fairness and equity among local government areas and wards.
On the forth-coming zonal workshop to be organised by the commission for the South-South zone.
Scheduled to take place in Uyo, Akwa Ibom States next month, the Ambassador urged the local government service commission.
