PAAR Introduction Excites Maritime Expert
A Port Harcourt-based
maritime expert, Chief Ndubuisi Orji, has expressed delight with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) over the introduction of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report, describing it as a right step in the maritime industry.
Orji, who barred his mind in an exclusive interview with The Tide correspondent in Port Harcourt over the weekend said apart from re-invigorating confidence among the stakeholders, it had also improved revenue to the country through the sector.
According to him, since the introduction of PAAR, the Nigerian Customs Service has leveraged their operations in line with global best practices and standard, adding that it had also enhanced operations at the Ports as goods were being cleared within 24-hours.
The expert further noted that with the introduction of PAAR, Customs have improved in their services as its officers were trained to meet up the challenges of clearing goods without delay, and however called on them to further improve on their services to ensure that they sustained the tempo.
“The Nigerian Customs Services under Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi Inde has done well in the implementation of the PAAR policy and they should not relent but ensure they maintain their height in line with the best global practices”, he said.
The community leader noted that despite initial fear over the implementation, PAAR is now part and parcel of the Maritime sub-sector as it is being transmitted with ease.
Orji however, called on other stakeholders to continue to cooperate with the Customs for the sustenance of the success achieved so far by the service in the country.
