Power Outages: PH Residents Blame PHED
Following the continuous
power outage in parts of Port Harcourt, electricity consumers have blamed part of their woes on the failure of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) to provide steady power.
Some residents of Ada-George Road, who spoke with The Tide at the weekend, said some parts of the area had not been served for about ten months now.
One of them Madam Ozioma, said she has fallen back to the use of generating seat in order to power her little business.
The lady, told our reporter she spends close to N30,000 every month on fuel to power her small generating set.
Ozioma, noted that it was painful to live in some areas that lacked power supply for such a lengthy period.
Others areas, included NTA / Mgbuoba Road, were The Tide leant that power outage has become the norm.
Another respondents, Mr Peter Imoh, recalled that parts of the Town have been treated unfairly by PHED and other similar companies.
He said before the inception of PHED, the area had never had it so good, adding that it was slowing down business growth.
Imoh regretted that some parts of the Town could still live in darkness after much contribution of the state government to send darkness out of the state.
He lamented over a situation where one would spend over N50,000 on monthly basis on the purchase of petrol and diesel to power private generating set.
On the way farward, he said government should revisit the privatisation issue, and with draw the lincences of those who could not beat the target.
When contacted on phone, the manager communications, PHED, Mr John Onyi, blamed the situation on the vandalised ten transformers on Ada-Gorge axis and 24 others in Diobu area, adding that two suspects have been arrested to that effect.
