Nipost Seeks Media Support, Makes Case For Stamp Duty

Service (NIPOST) has called on the media to assist in the task of implementing the provision of the Stamp Duty Act.
The Area Postal Manager, NIPOST Rivers Territory, Mrs Loretta Nwakanma, made the call during this year’s celebration of the World Post Day in Port Harcourt.
She said the media can help by properly sensitizing and Educating the public on their obligations under the Act.
Nwakanma, pointed out that if the press could work in agreement with NIPOST, some of their challenges would be addressed.
According to her, the agency is currently implementing the provision of the Stamp Duty Act as enshrined in Cap 411 volume xxxii Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1990.
The Financial Regulations (FR) No. 617, she said, also specified the nature of transactions and amount of payment liable to stamp duties.
The NIPOST boss, maintained that the Stamp Duty Act, mandates every individual to ensure that every receipt, bills of payment and others, from N1000 and above ought to be accompanied with N50 postage stamp.
She further called on members of the public to be at liberty to suggest areas that could move the activities of the post forward.
Our reporter gathered that the NIPOST is into other transactions like the sale of JAMB, WAEC and other forms for corporate organizations across the country .Meanwhile, she has promised to always operate within the ambit of the law as provided by its parent body, the Universal Postal Union (UPU), adding that this year’s world Post Day celebration was its 140th event since the body was established in 1874 by the United Nations (UN).
