NCS Nets N963m From Seme In Sept
Not less than N963 mil
lion was collected by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme in September 2014.
The amount collected by the service is the highest monthly collection made between 2013 and 2014.
The services it said has intensified efforts to suppress smuggling and ensure a no escape operational mode against violators.
These were disclosed by the NCS, Customs Area Controller (CAC) Seme Area Command, in Lagos and made available to The Tide.
According to the statement which was signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command Mr Ernest Ollotah, said the service had intensified moves to suppress the activities of smugglers across the border.
“These Patrols and other anti-smuggling activities are paying off as unrepentant smugglers are fleeing the area to attempt their illegalities in order areas where they are likely to meet resistance and seizures by our sister command,” he said.
Pursuant to an earlier directive by the comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi that all Customs command and formations join in the national fight against Ebola-our operatives are working with the basic anti Ebola protective gears.
“In line with my CCC’s Zero tolerance for smuggling, we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that Seme Border becomes and remains a no go area to perpetrators of smuggling and other unlawful activities.
Some will contine to be unsafe for them as we are increasing our intelligence on a daily basis on their moves which are shared with other commands to achieve the same goal” Egbudin added.
According to the CAC, we will keep this tempo into and beyond the forthcoming yuletide season. Our close tie with the border communities under a reinforced customs community relations forum will be sustained as we are employing enlightenment and persuasion as tools for zero causalties in achieving our anti-smuggling drive.”
“We are happy that some traditional rulers, community chiefs, youth leaders and residents of border communities are cooperating with us in the strive to protect our national economy and ensure security of our people”, he declared.
