NDE Lauds FG’s Plans To Establish Students’ Agribusiness Clubs
The Coordinator,
National Directorate of Employment in Bayelsa State, Mr David Apakasa, has commended Federal Government’s plan to set up students’ agribusiness clubs in schools across the country.
Apakasa, who made the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Yenagoa on Tuesday, said the establishment of the clubs would boost youths’ participation in agri-culture.
“Such clubs will imbibe the culture of farming in students, boost the agricultural skills among them and promote self-reliance.
“Under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda, farming in the country is no longer a job for the old people alone; it has become agribusiness; that is taking agriculture as business.
“I believe the establishment of such clubs in schools is a good step in exploring the entire value chain of agriculture.
“The establishment will also go a long way in checkmating unemployment in the country and advance plans to boost food security in the country,” Apakasa said.
The coordinator also lauded the launching of the National School Agriculture Programme aimed at encouraging students in secondary schools to venture into agriculture.
NAN reports that the programme was launched on October 20 by President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The primary aim of the programme is to nurture the entrepreneurship skills in students, create jobs for themselves and to enable the youth develop a positive attitude toward farming,” the coordinator said.
