WAPIC To Honour Leading Energy Professionals
The West African Power
Industry Convention (WAPIC) will honour leading utility and energy professionals at its annual convention slated for November 18 and November 19, according to a statement.
The statement, issued by the Communication Manager of WAPIC, Mrs Annemarie Roodbol, in Abuja, noted that the event would hold in Lagos.
It quoted Roodbol as saying that the WAPIC award was designed to celebrate the West African triumphs and successes of the industry in the last year.
She said the industry would nominate candidates in seven award categories, including Lifetime Achievement Award to an outstanding woman in power.
She added that the winner would be honoured at a five-star gala event during the convention, noting that “WAPIC’s Programme Director, Irene Ochem, will celebrate the success and the loyalty of our event participants during the past 11 years.
“We are proud to launch the awards, which recognise excellence within the power sector and rewards companies and individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry,’’ she stated.
The communication manager stated that Mr Tony Elumelu, an investment guru and philanthropist, would head the high-level list of power experts to address the year’s WAPIC.
She said WAPIC would, at the 11th edition of the conference, gather government utilities, consultants and investors to discuss the challenges of local markets, capacity building and investment.
She added that the award ceremony would be attended by 500 leading executives from across the power, renewable energy, finance and investment spheres.
Roodbol said excellence in power generation, excellence in power transmission, power transaction of the year, best renewable energy project and best rural electrification project were other categories of awards at the convention.
