A’Ibom: FRSC Begins Weekly Trial Of Traffic Rule Violators
The Federal Road
Safety Commission (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Sector Command, says it has begun a weekly mobile court session to try road traffic violators in the state.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Mr Godsgift Uwen, disclosed this to newsmen in Uyo yesterday.
Uwen said that the weekly session was one of the measures adopted by the command to ensure safety on roads in the state, especially during the “ember months’’.
He said that the prosecution of road traffic rule violators would help to checkmate the excesses of some motorists across the state.
The spokesman said that the command had prosecuted 22 road traffic offenders for various traffic breaches in the last one week.
Uwen explained that 21 of them were convicted while one was discharged and acquitted.
He said that the offences committed by the motorists were driver’s licence violation, dangerous driving, seat belt violation and attempt to bribe FRSC marshals.
He said others were use of mobile phones while driving, use of worn-out tyres, number plate violation and traffic light violation.
“As we are now in the “ember months’’, it is pertinent for drivers to ensure that their vehicles are in proper condition before they embark on any journey.
“This is to ensure that they reach their destinations safely.
“The mobile court is now a regular exercise for us to checkmate the excesses of erring drivers and vehicle owners in order to achieve accident-free period,” he said.
Uwen said that the command had also embarked on regular public enlightenment campaigns during the period to educate the public on safe driving.
He advised motorists in the state to always begin their journeys on time to avoid unnecessary over speeding.
