GSM Subscribers Now 130 Million In Nigeria -NCC

tion Commission, (NCC), has revealed that the number of Global System for Mobile (GSM) Communication subscribers in the country has risen to 130 million.
The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr Eugene Juwah, said this at a public function in Abuja, recently.
The NCC boss who spoke through the agency’s Director, Public Affairs, Tony Ojobo, said that another revolution in the sector is in the offing.
He noted that seven infrastructure companies would be licensed soonest in a bid to provide the infrastructure requirement to drive broadband service across the six geo-political zones of the country.
Juwah pointed out that at 130 million subseribers, the nation would experience an up ward movement in the telecommunication industry.
According to him, the commission, has engaged some consultants, adding that they have adopted the Open Access Model (OPAM) for the implementation of broadband in Nigeria.
He explained that the OPAM, would provide the infrastructure requirement that will drive the services.
The NCC’s boss, revealed that the rate of voice calls almost at its crescendo, that the next level would be data revolution.
The development he said, would be achieved a few years ahead, which will include broadband employment.
He pointed out that just like what was witnessed in the area of voice communication, the sector is going to witness same in the area of data communication, as far as broadband was concerned.
However, he has assured that the development will usher in the era of digital communication, broadband services and as well, enhance communication.
