We Are Tackling Insecurity Through Education – RSG
Aside beefing up security surveillance, Governor Chibuike Amaechi says the State Government is tackling the challenge of insecurity in the state through various educational programmes.
He made the remark while unveiling five security cans donated by the MTN Foundation yesterday in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Speaking through his Deputy, Engr Tele Ikuru, Amaechi said the government believes that, “part of the cardinal project is to use education to check criminality”.
He reiterated that the state government views security of lives and property as the core responsibility of government, hence it has donated over 300 vehicles to security agencies to strengthen their operations over the years.
Amaechi lauded MTN Foundation for the gesture saying, “security is the business of all, as company, as a body the only way you can operate well is through adequate security.”
The governor counselled that security should not be viewed as the challenge of government, and therefore called on other corporate bodies to emulate the gesture of MTN in beefing security of their environment to guarantee smooth business operations.
Further commending MTN Foundation for its numerous corporate social responsibility initiatives, Governor Amaechi urged them to do more, especially in its areas of operations.
Earlier on his part, Director of MTN Foundation, Mr. Dennis Okoro stated that the donations form part of the corporate social responsibility to support government in strengthening security.
So far, Mr Okoro disclosed that the communications giant has donated over 130 security vans to various parts of the country, adding that it also gives attention to health, education and youth empowerment.
He commended Rivers State Government for its efforts in providing conducive environment for the company to operate, while enjoining it to maintain the tempo.
