NSCDC Arrests 20 For Vandalism
The Nigeria ,Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River has arrested 20 people for vandalising public property in Calabar. The command also apprehended one human trafficking suspect and rescued 20 victims of the crime in the state, in the last six months.
Mr Patrick Kalu, the State Commandant of NSCDC gave the figures in an interview with newsmen in Calabar.
Kalu said, “In the last two months, we have arrested 20 people for vandalising electricity transformers within the metropolis and we handed them over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.’’ He said that the human trafficking victims, whose ages ranged from 10 years to 18 years, had, along with the suspect, been handed over to National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The commandant said that NSCDC was carrying out surveillance on all government facilities in the state to ensure that they were not vandalised. He further said that his men recently arrested five armed robbery suspects, who attempted to rob a finance house in Biase, in Cross River.
He said that his organisation had held stakeholders meetings with PHCN, youth leaders and clan heads on security around public utilities and how to police them.
On revenue, he said that the command generated N2 million from registration of private security companies and renewal of operating licenses, between January and March.
