The League of African
Democrats, a coalition of students and civil society organisations has honoured the Regional General Manager for South-South, South-East of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Ebele Okoye for her outstanding performance in managing human and material resources.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, the Executive Secretary of the League of African Democrats, Comrade Idris Abulkarim Sani, said they were satisfied with the leadership qualities demonstrated by the awardees since her assumption of office in 2012.
Comrade Abdulkarim disclosed that the Port Harcourt International Airport General Manager came out tops among those nominated for the award scoring 78 per cent in the Mandate Delivery Impact Assessment (MDIAR) carried out by the organisation.
He noted that society need to commend those that have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the nation in their areas, stressing that the LEADS found Mrs Okoye worthy of the award for distinguishing herself in service delivery.
The Executive Secretary used the opportunity to call on President Goodluck Jonathan not to buy into the suggestion of privatising airports in Nigeria in the interest of the country as doing the contrary would have negative consequences.
Responding, FAAN Regional General Manager, Mrs Ebele Okoye, thanked the Leageu of African Democrats (LEADS) for finding her worthy of the honour and attributed the success story of the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) to team work of her staff.
She explained that just this year alone, she had received nine awards from different organisations within and outside the country which shows that her contributions were being appreciated.
The Regional General Manager, urged the youths to have passion for good things and distance themselves from negative vices that would destroy their future, adding that “what young people like you are doing shows that the country has future.”
