NLC Wants Quarantine Centres Established In LGAs
The chairman of Nigeria
Labour Congress (NLC), Rivers State Council, Comrade Chris Oruge, has called on the State government to take proactive steps to curb the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the state.
The Rivers NLC boss who made the call in a statement signed by his Special Assistance on Media and Publicity, Tonye Orabere.
Comrade said government should establish screening and quarantines centres in the 23 local government areas in the state.
Comrade Oruge further stated that government should give all health workers life assurance policy and provide necessary equipment to treat affected victims of EVD. According to him, the protection of workers in the state against the EVD is paramount to NLC in the State, saying that both private and public offices should provide hand sterilizer as primary preventive measure. “As responsive labour leaders, it is our duty to call on the State government to take adequate measures to ensure that the EVD does not further spread, because workers stand more risk as they go out for their normal duties everyday” Oruge said.
The NLC boss, used the forum to advice workers in the state not to panic, but should observe personal hygiene to serve as a preventive measure and eschew body contact.
