Ogun Customs Intercepts 1,480 Live Ammunition

mand of the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS), has intercepted 1,480 cartridges of live ammunitions concealed in 15 bags of rice, about to be smuggled into the country through Abeokuta, Igboora bush path of Ogun State.
Addressing maritime correspondents in Abeokuta last week, the Customs Area comptroller, Mr Haruna Mamudu, said, through the command’s intelligence network, his men got wind of the illegal movement of the ammunition and laid ambush for the criminals “but sensing the plans of his men, the smugglers abandoned the ammunition cleverly stuffed in bags of rice and absconded.
He further explained that the command also made a seizure of nine sack bags of cannabis at Imeko, a suburb of the state, adding that “smugglers are now devising many method to beat the security operatives but our men are on red alert”.
“Recently, we made the same type of seizure of ammunition at the Imeko area, given the security challenges in the country occasion by insurgency,” he said.
Manudu said the command has re-strategies its anti-smuggling warfare and the result is what we are seeing today.
The command boss said plans are online to hand over the ammunitions to the Ogun State Police Command, the appropriate government agency saddled with the responsibility to handled the issue of arms and ammunition for further investigation.
The customs area controller also warned criminally minded persons, who intend to use Ogun State border for any criminal activities to desist” or face the wrath of the law, adding that his command are more secured.
