Frank Edwards Wins Best Vocalist Awards
Frank Edwards whose
smash hit songs ‘Mma Mma’ and ‘Imela’ currently rocking the Christain world within and outside Nigeria has bagged two awards as Best Male Vocalist and most Notable Achievement Awards in the recently concluded Nigerian Gospel Music Foundation (NGMF) awards held at the Muson Centre Onikan Lagos last Saturday.
The wave making Gospel artiste was closely followed by Pita who smiled home with The Artiste of the Year Award and Best Praise Song. He won with his chart busting praise song ‘Twale’, while Africa’s gospel great, Lara George won the Best Female Vocalist Award as well as Gospel Reggae pioneer Buchi who bagged Best Gospel Reggae artiste.
Highflying Mike Abdul, the “Morire” master got the Song of the Year award for his unstoppable Morire hit song. Nikki Laoye won the Best Worship Song with the very inspiring worship song ‘only you’ while the Best Group of the Year went to the Tehila crew.
Gospel rock artiste Eben’s “Justified” album received Album of the Year award, while the revelation of the year Preye got the best new artiste award. Best collaboration went to “Hail The King” by Obiwon featuring Frank Edwards, Eben and Kenny Kore, while ‘Okiki Jesu Fuji’ bagged ‘Best Traditional Gospel Artiste’ award.
Gospel artiste poster boy Henrisoul received the Best Urban/inspirational song. Others include, ‘The Best video’, you are great by Ayo Vincent, featuring Joe Praize. Best Video Director was won by Yinka Davids Best Rep/Hip Hop IBK space ship Boi, Best producer Wilson Joel, Best on Air personality, DJ Gosporella.
Best male Artiste diaspora Lawrence Ikiri. Best female Artiste Diaspora-Isabella, Best rock artiste Joel Praize, Best use instrument Mike Aremu, Comedian of the year Akpororo.
In the special awards categories Wellu Wellu master, Sammie Okposo bagged life time achievement award while ace music producer, Wole Oni, got the Crystal Icon award. Crystal Humanitarian Award went to Mr Esharefuri while gospel music legend, Pastor Joseph Adelakun aka ‘Ayewa’ bagged the evergreen award with his refreshing evergreen song ‘Amona Tete’.
The Nigerian crystal gospel awards honours gospel artistes for their excellent performances in the music industry organised by NGMF. The aim of the awards is to aid the entire music industry in Nigeria by recognising, honouring and celebrating excellence in the gospel music sector of the Nigerian music industry.

They Booed, Threw Bottles At Me – Tems Recounts
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.

Primeboy Pleads For Mohbad’s Burial
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
