Ebola: Hotels Owners Cry Out Over Low Patronage
Operators of hotels and
clubs are now lamenting the slow pace of their businesses, following the outbreak and scare of Ebola disease in Nigeria.
The Tide has reliably gathered that those who operate clubs, restaurant and hotel business have been recording low level of patronage in their businesses since the news of Ebola virus in Nigeria.
In Port Harcourt and environs, some operators of hospitality business have reiterated that people are now scared of going to general places where they will meet other peoples, stating that this has really affected their businesses.
Reacting to the issue, one of the hotel operators in Alakahia area of Akpor Kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, who pleaded anonymity, said that the outbreak of Ebola disease has scared most of his customers away.
According to him, the rate of customer’s patronage in his hotel has dropped remarkably, and that people that come to have relaxation in the hotel have now resorted to staying at home.
For Mr Samuel Eziwa, who operates a night club in Rumuokoro area of Port Harcourt, the patronage of business has dropped by almost 70 per cent.
He said that the media report on how the virus is spread has caused jiltery among the people, adding that people are now very careful of going to clubs.
Eziwa maintained that most of his customs are afraid of contracting the virus, which they think can be spread through public places like club houses and similar places.
He said that they have tried on their own to keep the place clean, as well as provide sanitisers for customers so as to reassure of the safety of the place.
Also speaking, another club operator, who also run a restaurant business at the Rumuola area of Port Harcourt, Mr Francis Ikem said that it is difficult for him now to rake in 50 per cent income of what he use to make on a daily basis before the Ebola importation to Nigeria.
He said the issue is now like a stigma, which has affected businesses that attract much people, especially the clubs and eateries.
