RSG Presents Starter Packs To Trainees

ernment through the Ministry of Youth Development has presented starter packs and certificates to 75 graduands of its skills acquisition programme.
A breakdown of the figures shows that 35 youths graduated in traditional fashion design, 20 in GSM repairs and 20 in Batik (Tie and Dye). Similarly, the lovers of Christ Ministry International in collaboration with the ministry has also trained another set of 82 youths, 50 are Rivers indigenes.
They were trained in Business Entrepreneurship, Cinematography, E. Commerce, 3d Animation, fish farming cake baking/confectionary, interior decoration and soap izal and air freshener production.
The State Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi who performed the ceremony in Port Harcourt said that the government is economically empowering the youths with a view to keeping them away from the streets.
Sir Wonodi said that the programme will make the beneficiaries to become socially responsible citizens of the state and nation builders of our time.
“As we know, youth unemployment is a major challenge to socio-economic development of the state and Nigeria at large and it is through skills acquisition programme/entrepreneurship and capacity building that the problem can be ameliorated to a noticeable standard “, he said.
He advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the opportunity to improve themselves, stressing that the ministry was putting in place an evaluation team to visit their locations for proper appraisal of their commitment over the business enterprise.
Wonodi further charged them to eschew acts capable of destroying their future.
The Director, Youth Education and Counselling Chief Dick-Isotu also cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the materials presented to them.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the government for the gesture and promised to put the items into maximum use.
