Landlord Condemns Use Of Residential Houses For Business Operations
A Port Harcourt based
landlord and estate agent Mr Solomon Uwabie called on the Rivers State government to check the indiscriminate use of residential house for business operations.
Uwabie who spoke to our correspondent in Port Harcourt yesterday at Azuobia town said the trend if not checked was capable of creating bad blood between landlords and tenants.
According to him, houses designed for residential purposes should be used as such and those for business should also be used for business.
Uwabie said with the present economic situation in the country, everyone was looking for a way to make ends meet hence the need for using every available space for one business or the other.
He further explained that some tenants have also taken advantage of landlords by using their rooms for church activities.
He said such practices has often caused disagreement among tenants who accuse their co-tenants for doing business in the name of church.
According to him, some of the tenants who operate churches and claim to have the power in praying for the solving of every predicament end up habouring all manner of people.
He said instances of disagreements between salvation seeking members of the public and “prayer house operating tenants” abound in most areas of Port Harcourt when the later collects money without delivering solution to problems.
However, Uwabie in his call who excluded such businesses as provisions and major staples said the ones he was against were drug stores, printing houses, selling of fuel and auto-mechanics among others.
