Rivers NCSU SEC Appoints Acting Treasurer
The Rivers State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), has approved the appointment of Comrade Joy Ogbuigba of the Ministry of Agriculture, as the acting State treasurer of the union pending the election of a substantive treasurer.
The appointment of the acting treasurer followed a motion moved by the unit Chairman of the union, Local Government Audit, Comrade Dere Tamunodiepiriye during an emergency meeting at Port Harcourt, secretariat of the union, last Thursday.
The decision which was unanimously supported by the SEC members was as a result of information provided by the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Opuoyibo Lilly-West to the effect that the substantive Treasurer of the union, Comrade Patience Ojirika had refused to perform her official duties since June 23, 2014.
The union chairman explained that the appointment of an acting treasurer was constitutional going by Rule 8 of the union’s constitution, stressing that Comrade Ojirika’s refusal to perform her legitimate functions which included appending her signature to the union’s cheques had caused untold hardship to both the union and its staff whom he said had not been paid their salaries for the past two months.
According to him, the decision of the SEC to appoint an acting treasurer was in order, as no single individual could hold the entire members of the union to ransom.
He, however, warned some members of the union to stop going on air to embarrass the union in the state and urged members of the union to remain focused and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
However, a vote of confidence has been passed on the chairman of the union in the State, Comrade Opuoyibo Lilly-West by members of the SEC of the union.
Moving a motion to that effect, the unit chairman of the Civil Service Commission of NCSU, Comrade Karibi Asawo said the SEC members had no doubt that Lilly-West had been piloting the affairs of the union creditably and lauded him for his dynamism and pragmatism.
