Group Lauds NAFDAC Over Water Testing
Owners of water
packaging outfits in Benin, the Edo State capital, have commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its national water quality testing programme.
The owners, who spoke with newsmen in Benin recently, said that the initiative was laudable and would enhance the quality of packaged water in the country.
The proprietor of Okao Vigo Prime Table Water Company, Benin, Mr Peter Ezekile Momoh Selman, said that the programme would go a long way in promoting good water treatment and hygienic conditions in the water packaging outfits.
Selman said: “This initiative which cuts across board will make everyone in the business to meet the standard thereby ensuring the sale of quality water to the public.”
The proprietor of Vigo Prime Table Water, Benin, Mr Peter Ezekiel, noted that water was essential for daily living and NAFDAC regular screening of water sold to the public was a step in the right direction.
Ezekiel, however, suggested that factories that produce water packaging materials should also be monitored to prevent contamination of the materials.
According to him, “contamination of water does not come from packaging alone; sometimes it could result from poor handling of the packaging materials such as cellophanes”.
Also, the proprietor of Ruyi Table Water, Mr Ruyi Obaseki, said “it is a good development because there has to be sanity in whatever we are doing.
“The programme will help eliminate water that is not fit for human consumption from the market and also help us get updates on water treatment.”
